Welcome

We are a thriving, friendly church committed to our mission statement:

Did you find any

 of the nativity Stones

that were hidden over

the island ?

Thank you

to all those who came to join us

and cheer us on at the

Dragon Boat races last year.

We raced as Noah's Ark. Just as Noah had all-comers on his boat, so did we.  The school, the church and a group of friends and neighbours.

Just like Noah we came through at the end and were sixth overall.

Congratulations to the team who worked so hard.

We're coming back again this year!

    We celebrate Holy Communion

Communion bread wine

         on the second Sunday

            of each month

           at 11am

      Come and join us!

We are the church on the island and St Mary's Island School is our home. You will always be greeted with a warm welcome. As with many churches, we are a mixed congregation that reflects the population of the Island, with some of our valued members living ‘outside port limits’.

Whether you're just having a look at our website or searching for a new place to worship, we are delighted to have you here.

Members of our congregation are involved in numerous projects and we have strong links with the island community.

The following activities take place in the Island Community Centre:

  • Little Fishes
  • Youth Club

Other activities include:

  • Children's events
  • Messy Church
  • Ladies' Evenings
  • Homegroups
  • Prayer Groups
  • Trios
  • Atlas Place meetings
  • Painting and distributing stones for children to find
  • Leading worship at St Mary's Island School
  • School Governors

Introducing St Mary's Island

St Mary’s Island is made up of some 1,500 properties, mainly houses, mixed with flats, where a pleasant residential area has been created on the site of what was formerly part of Chatham Dockyard.

The island is completely surrounded by water with a single road providing access.

Large 3 flags Driving across the bridge onto the Island,  visitors will immediately see its maritime connections from the yacht basin to the left, the water sports activity basin and commercial dock to the right, and international code flags used to spell out the initial letters of St Mary's Island, SMI in various places.

The C of E Voluntary Aided Primary School was designed to house both school and church, with the school hall doubling as church hall, and included spaces for a church office and storage cupboard.  The Hall was licensed for Anglican Worship in 1999 when the school first opened.
