ABOUT US
Our mission statement, 'Creating spaces for our community to encounter Jesus', expresses our Christian beliefs and outward looking focus.
St Mary's Island Church holds its services in the school hall at 11:00 am each Sunday.
We are a lay led church, led by Matt Keeler and Carolyn Facey. We are blessed with other members with skills in finance, music, IT, children’s work and multiple other talents needed to make a church work.
All members are encouraged to take part in the service. Children play an invaluable part and enjoy displaying what they have learned and completed during the service.
Our church mouse, Malachi, attends services
regularly, and has been active in helping to organise
children’s parties. During the pandemic, a number of online parties were organised for children, who were given chocolate and other little gifts that they opened when meeting their friends online. Quizzes and other activities at these parties helped parents and
their children to maintain close contact with each other.
There is a strong focus on providing activities for children, with members taking responsibility each week for providing handicrafts, from colouring to Christingles, that they share with the congregation at the end of the service.
Throughout the Church Year, many celebrations are held including Baptisms, Weddings and Thanksgiving Services alongside the traditional Christmas and Easter services and Harvest Festival. We celebrate Holy Communion once a month.
