St Mary’s Island church lies within the parish and is attached to part of St Marks Church, Gillingham.

St. Mary’s Island Church came into being after several years of praying, planning, and discussion between interested parties – ie the Diocese of Rochester, St. Mark’s Church, Gillingham and local non-conformist churches in the mid to late 1990’s. The first service was held in the newly built St. Mary’s Island C of E Primary School building in December 1999 – a Carol Service.  This was well attended.  Our first regular Sunday morning service was 16th January 2000 initially with just twelve committed people.  Over the months and subsequent years our regular attendance has grown and is now in the region of 50 plus adults and about 20 plus children although we have contact with many more people.  There is room for plenty more. At a recent baptism service there were over 200 people.
Although initially we were a lay lead LEP church we are now purely an Anglican Church part of St. Mark’s Gillingham.
